Mrs. Perry’s Art Studio and East Farms STEAM Magnet School Counselor, Savannah Maxwell, have teamed up and developed a Covid Recovery Art Program that combines SEL with Fine Art blending the two programs to help every student to begin the healing from the pandemic. The lessons are designed to promote engagement, encourage motivation, develop resiliency and gives hope to our students.

This SEL/ART Program teaches the Washington SEL Standards, ASCA Mindsets and Behaviors of Student Success, and OSPI Art Standards.

I am a professional sculpture artist based out of Spokane Washington who uses many different mediums to create my work.

In 2002 I was hired as the Resident Artist for a local school district. I set out to not only teach art but to incorporate the student’s curriculum with the projects as well as teach elements of designs recommended by OSPI State Learning Standards. I have worked closely with educators creating art projects students can invest their creativity and imagination into.

The video lessons in this curriculum are some of my favorites. Students have a natural innate love for art. Art is a natural way to teach, have fun, and learn all at the same time.

Working with students of all ages, I can promise art inspires creative skills, builds self-esteem, develops a sense of self-importance and individuality, encourages self-expression, and stimulates the imagination. In addition, several studies show children that participate in art class benefit on several levels:
